It took a good amount of time to source the perfect wood for this lap. It ended up being the 'brother' cut from the Les Paul Hollowbody build. It features the classic Corelli wood combo of Maple/Koa/Ebony. It's a perfect tonal trio on top of a super light African Mahogany body.

The Leopardi "The Poet" was made of highly figured Oahu grown Monkeypod. It features a carved front and back, custom wound "Bonifed" Humbuckers, and a genuine diamond inlayed into the headstock.
Leopardi guitars are the latest flagship offering from Joe Corelli Guitars.
Yes Joel, you were right. Sometimes ya just gotta say.....WTF.
This build for my Tasmanian rebel pal Richard turned out to be so much fun that I may do some more in the near future. You'll see the band Borrison Ivy slaying them with this custom Corelli Barncaster made of old knotty pine reclaimed from an old Nevada brothel. If the walls could talk! This guitar SINGS! With mojo like that, it just gets better with Nick Bona's 'Bonafied' Tele Stack pickup which was custom wound specifically for this unique guitar. The neck is quartersawn eastern hard rock maple. An amazing player and ultimate "sleeper" guitar.
Owner: Richard Barber
This guitar features a stunning bookmatched koa top, african mahogany body. 5=Piece Mahogany/ebony long tennon neck with flamed maple binding. Matching koa headstock. Custom wound "Hot PAF" Bonafied pickups.

Ka Ulu is a 32" medium-scale bass made from nine different endemic and indigenous Hawaiian hardwoods. Her body is curved like a Warwick or a Spector.
1) Her body is made from milo, which is known for good bass response in ukulele construction. 2) her top is made from iliahi (from the same piece as the fingerboards on Gemelli), which aside from smelling delicous is harder than maple. 3) Her knobs are made from lama, or Hawaiian ebony (a true ebony species). 4) Her jackplate is made from hala (as in lauhala), 5) her cavity cover is made from kou, 6) her head piece is made from ‘ohia, 7 & 8 ) her neck is made from a laminate of koai‘a (dominantly) and koa (had to have the two sister species forming the neck!) and 9) the fretboard is made from a‘ali‘i -- which is a wood so tough that frequently a‘ali‘i bushes are still growing after lava flows surround them and kill everything else (granted all the leaves burn off but they grow back).
Her position markers are made from Hawaiian black coral, and her strap is custom made for her from wild boar leather (sadly not sourced locally, but same species).
"Hoa Hele Bass," which means "traveling companion." The customer even did a 3D render of his design beforehand... when he finished Joe said "dammit it really does look like your render." Her full name is Ka Ulu Kani O Laka, which means "the reverberating sound of the grove of Laka." Laka is the Hawaiian goddess of hula and mele, as well as of the forest, so wood and music is appropriate... the bass is fully in her kinolau. "Ka Ulu" by itself means "the grove" which is appropriate considering what went into her.
We are not done yet! Her tuning system and passive magnetic pickup were sourced from an NS Design CR-4 that we butchered, and she has Graphtech piezo pickups in the bridge (a Hipshot D-style). The piezos run both through the same Acousti-Phonic system and stereo jack that Gemelli has, but also through the Graphtech Ghost system... which means she also has a 14-pin output for use with a guitar synth!
She is strung with these special Fender hybrid bronze strings that have an inner wrapping of stainless steel so that you get the bronze acoustic sound through the piezos but they still work with the magnetic pickup.

The bass has two interchangeable necks. One is a standard 34" scale fretted Jazz-style neck with gold-tone frets, and one is a 36" scale fretless (the "main" neck). The fretless neck is made of pheasantwood, and the fretted neck is made of koai‘a (the denser lowland sister species to koa, and the only other endemic Hawaiian acacia... it's so dense it sinks in water). Both necks have Big Island iliahi (sandalwood) fingerboards and the headstock is faced in primavera stained to match the body. Both necks also have position markers made of 1.7mm diameter diamonds set in 14k gold tubing and a tenth diamond dots the "i" in "Corelli" on the headstock--for a total of .2 carats of diamonds in each neck.
All woods were grown and sourced locally in Hawai‘i. The body is a single solid piece of primavera, stained olive green (more what the Europeans think of olive green versus what we think of it--it's bright, not drab). The pickguard is a laminate, with the top layer made of eucalyptus burl to emulate the tortoiseshell-pattern common to Fender PGs. The next layers in order are primavera and monkeypod--the lighter primavera gives the PG that white stripe on the bevel that Fender is also known for.
Hardware:
Each neck has gold Hipshot ultralight tuners raked back at an angle to emulate the tuning pegs on a Warwick bass, both E string tuners are Hipshot D-Tuners. Both necks have a bone nut. The pickups are passive Alnico lipstick single coils in neck and bridge position. The Schaller 3D Bridge comes equipped with built-in piezo pickups under each brass saddle instead of the usual roller saddle found on this type of bridge. Those pickups are wired into a Graphtech Acoustic-Phonic preamp (active). The pickups are wired to a stereo jack, so that the lipstick pickups can be routed to a different preamp than the piezoelectric pickups. Each pickup is controlled by its own stacked pot (vol/tone) to emulate the Fender '62 Jazz basses, the difference being this bass has three stacked pots instead of two and the volume pot is gold to match the hardware instead of nickel like the '62 (the tone pots are black like the '62s though). She's officially named Nocellara Gemelli. The type of olive green she looks like is similar to the Nocellara del Belice, which is made in the Belice area of Sicily... and of course Joe is Sicilian. Gemelli is Italian for Gemini, which was going to be her original name (because of the two necks, the twins). I still call her Gemini or even Gem sometimes.
